Summary of the outsiders (1-4)
After
Ponyboy, who is narrator and one of the greasers, watched a movie called Paul
Newman, he was thinking about how he and Paul Newman were similar during the
period of walking home. Besides, he thought he was the only one that liked watching
movies and walking alone, and believed that it is unsafe for greasers, which
was a group that belonged the east side of friends in the class, and wearing
their hair long, and also it always attract the attention of Socials that simply
called Socs. As comparing with Socs, greasers were poor and needy. They would
always bring switchblades with toughing, stealing, and fighting against Socs. After
Ponyboy’s parents were died, three of brothers that called Ponyboy, Darrel and
Sodapop were living together. Darrel was the oldest one that Ponyboy hated him
so much, and he looked like the head of the family. Sodapop was the second
older brother that was sixteen years old; he also thought he was charm and
cheerfulness. Returning to the lonely walk, he noticed there was a red Corvair
trailing him. And then, he was walking as fast as he can because he remembered
the Socs was badly beat his friend Johnny Cade. A few minutes later, there was
lots of people from Socs surrounded him. Besides, one of them made a haircut to
him even he was not will. Then, he did calling for help as they were going to
beat him down. Afterward, Sodapop and their groups came there to chase away the
Socs in order to save Ponyboy. As he got back to home, he did reading the story
called Great Expectations and trying to think about how his life was similar
with the life of the main character in the story called Pip. After he climbed
to Sodapop’s bed, his brother was telling him that he would marry his girlfriend
Sandy in the future.
In
the next night, he, Johnny and Dally was sitting behind a pair of Socs girls in
the movie theater, and Dally began to talk to them. But there was a girl with red
hair that called Cherry Valance that told him to stop. As Dally went out to buy
cokes, Ponyboy told that Sodapop has already quit the school and worked in a
gas station. Moreover, Johnny stunned Dally as he was trying to put his arm
around Cherry, and also he was telling him not to bother the girls. Afterward,
Cherry and her friend Marcia invited Johnny and Ponyboy to watch movie with
them. Then, two-bit was coming for trying to explain the two rules of greasers
to the girls, which is never get caught and always stick together, and also
told them how the Socs beat up Johnny. After this, Cherry told him that Socs
have the problems as same as greasers has even Ponyboy did not believe her.
As
they were walking home, Ponyboy and Cherry was talking a topic about his brothers.
He told Cherry what Darry looked like as she asked him. When they were talking
about Sodapop’s old house, Mickey Mouse, they changed to topic to be the
difference between Socs and greasers. At the same moment, they also found a
common thing, that they were reading and watching sunset. Besides, Cherry was
trying to explain that the Socs’ situation was not a simple thing that Ponboy
thought. They decided Socs were cool and aloof to realize their emotions while
greasers felt everything intensely. After that, a blue Mustang, belonged to
Cherry’s and Marcia’s boyfriends, that called Bob and Randy cruising the group,
Ponyboy sensed that there will be having a fight between them. But Cherry and
Marcia chose to leave with their boyfriends in order to prevent this fight, and
also told him that she cannot see Dally again because she must be fallen in
love with him. After Ponyboy got back to home, he found Johnny and told him
that greasers were escaping.
After
they went out to the park that was the place of deciding whether they wanted to
leave of themselves, it was 2:30 am. The blue Mustang, Randy, Bob and three
socs were jumped out from the car and approached them. Ponyboy spited at the
Socs before they were brawling. Moreover, he regained consciousness before
getting hit from a Soc. And, Johnny was carrying a switchblade and telling him
that he did kill Bob. Afterward, they decided to find Dally that was the only
one they believed he could help them. He suggested them to escape to
Windrixville with a change of clothing and a gun because it was a place that
they could hide in a forsaken church. After they took the train and found the
church that they were searching, they fell asleep wearily.
